Tulipwood Bowl Blanks 32mm thick
Size variations
Our bowl blanks are cut directly from the kiln-dried boards we receive from our supplier. The thickness of these boards can vary slightly due to natural variations in the wood and the drying process.
The thickness advertised is a nominal size and the actual thickness can vary by up to +/- 3mm. In most cases the actual thickness will be within 1mm of the advertised size.
The heartwood is light cream to yellowish brown, with occasional streaks of grey or green. The sapwood is pale yellow to white, not always clearly demarcated from the heartwood.
The grain is straight and fine. Easy to work to a smooth surface and stains and finishes well. It works well on the lathe, but it is best to make good finishing cuts with the bowl gouge to reduce sanding. A scraper will leave a woolly finish.
Our blanks are waxed to prevent moisture uptake if stored in humid conditions.
